Two Chandler Middle School teams competed in the Western Middle School Public Debate Program (MSPDP) Championship this past Saturday at Polytechnic School. The Eastern Championship ran simultaneously on the same day in New York. All teams competed in five tough rounds over a course of a day that lasted 13 hours.

The eighth grade team consisting of Uma D., Max M., and Max C. won four out of five of their rounds. Out of 125 teams, they placed 10th overall in the championship and first overall for our league. In addition, Max M. placed 18th and Max C. placed 19th for top speaker awards out of 350 speakers. Congratulations to this team on their great success!

The seventh grade team consisting of Maddy B., Reagan S., and Taryn K. won two of their rounds and fought hard all day in some very close debates against exceptional teams. During round three, one experienced judge remarked that Taryn’s rebuttal speech was the best she had heard in her 10 years of judging. We are very proud of all of their efforts and excited to see them debate next year as eighth graders.
Congratulations to all of our debaters on their success this academic year, and thank you to all the parents and family members for their amazing help and encouragement!
